Borrowed Love Song
03:43
|

Diamond ring don’t mean a thing
But then again neither do these songs i sing
Sounds just like a mockingbird
Or some other familiar tune I’ve heard
There’s a light that shines on you
Like the ones in old time Hitchcock movies do
So close your eyes and go to sleep
On my lap in the back seat
And this old car could vaporize
And all these words could be plagiarized
But I Feel it just the same
Turn of phrase caught my ear
Some cowboy shit or maybe William Shakespeare
Feel a tune deep in my chest
Then it all just sort of stumbles out I guess
Same old song, same three chords
How you make me feel just don’t sound right in words
So buckle up and hang on tight
There ain’t another thing in sight
Just you an me and stars above
Livin' out some sort of borrowed love
That I’m never giving back

Fair to Middlin'
04:00
|
|||
I’m keepin’ 4 wheels on the road
One day at a time, Always on my mind
Seems like such a heavy load
I took your advice, south of paradise
Few deep breaths and soldier on
Think of you instead, clear my cloudy head
I don’t expect that much from this livin’
I can be satisfied with fair to middlin’
Since when is gettin’ by such a sin…
Weighs so steady on my soul
The grass is more alive, on the other side
My little slice of mediocre,
Is good enough for me, hell why shouldn’t it be
As long as you are feelin’ whole
Everything I do, I do it all for you
I don’t expect that much from this livin’
I can be satisfied with fair to middlin’
Since when is gettin’ by such a sin…
Just need to stop my head from a spinnin’
Money can’t buy whatever you’re missin’
Since when is gettin by such a sin

Woke up on the wrong side of the bed today
I can tell things aren’t goin’ my way
Barely got two dollars to my name
But I'm tryin’ to keep my head up just the same
The sun can’t shine on the same dog every day
So I bide my time till the clouds all roll away
Well this land aint mine, no good reason for to stay
Why we do this I can only speculate
Walking ‘long the line of poverty
Tryin’ to feed my wife and family
Singin songs ain’t doin that for me
But here I’m still just doing it for free
Tryin’ to raise our daughter to believe
There’s no limit to what she can achieve
Even if her dream in life’s to be
Some bullshit singer songwriter like me
Well the sun can’t shine on the same dog every day
So i bide my time till the clouds all roll away
Well this land ain’t mine no good reason for to stay
I can’t help but think that there’s a better way
So even when I’m feelin' kinda blue
Or when I’ve bit off more than I can chew
I know that I can always just make do
Singin' songs to nobody but you
Well the sun can’t shine on the same dog every day
So i bide my time till the clouds all roll away
Well this land ain’t mine no good reason for to stay
I lost my last dime in the collection plate

Free Space
04:38

Maybe I don’t have the free space
To keep up with all the kids these days
Is there some way I can just delete
Some of this old shit that I don’t need
Childhood phone numbers I’ll never dial again
Broken hearts that these long years can’t seem to mend
Feel as though we’re drawing closer to the end
List of things that I no longer need
Taking up my precious memory
Most everything from before I met you
Except for all the songs on Joni Mitchell Blue
TV jingles for stores long since obsolete
Useless facts about some ancient history
All of the movies made in 1993
I would gladly give up all the times
I ever let you down or made you cry
I guess you need to feel the sting of pain
To truly love someone until their dying day
Second thought the only space I really need
Enough for us to ever after happily
And I’m content as long as you are here with me
Let the kids learn all the new exciting things
I’ll regale them with tales about the old days
Soon enough we will be only memories
Too

Hermit's Waltz
04:08
|
|||
Approach me slowly, I’m through roaming
Forces pulling, strong winds blowing
I’d yell, fire into the dark
But hell, not even a spark
Bring me sunlight, leave me hindsight
Bring me rain clouds, let it pour down
And soak, deep into the dirt
Spring hope, sing until it hurts
Settle for me, ‘least till morning
Maybe join my, humble toiling
We’ll feast, drink each other in
No priest, could rightly call it sin
Moon is waning, times a changing
But I’ll be staying, hibernating
Through snow, wind and rain and sun
Move slow, nothing to be done.
We could turn this, into something
Magnificent. Something different
I’ll sing, to you every night
You bring, joy into my life
